Lyrics
It Was Good Until It Wasn’t
By Frank Meyer
Verse 1:
She stopped into her favorite bar
She was a member of the cast
Bartender knew what she liked
He quickly filled her glass
Tonight she seemed distracted
Her face displayed the signs
After just a few drinks
She shared what was on her mind
Short Instrumental Break
She didn’t see it coming
As far as she could tell
They were having such a good time
Things were going well
Then he became distant
Spent more time with his friends
And with no explanation
He brought it all to an end
Chorus:
It was good ‘til it wasn’t
She stated with disdain
Something she often said
When there was little to explain
When there was no answer
Nowhere to point the blame
It was good ‘til it wasn’t
Always covered up her pain
Verse 2:
She sat in the window seat
Having breakfast with her friend
Telling her sad story
And how it came to an end
She married several years ago
Raised a family
Like many other women
Mom was her identity
Short Instrumental Break
She savored all the high times
Coped with all the lows
Then one day he came to her
And said that he had to go
It was nothing that she did
Nor nothing that she lacked
The fire died, and though he tried
He could not get it back
Chorus
Instrumental Break
Verse 3:
They walked the streets at twilight
As the evening sun went down
A gentle aging couple
In a quiet little town
They both had kids and grandkids
Who did not move away
They all enjoyed each other
Especially on holidays
Short Instrumental Break
The beauty of this simple life
She knew someday would end
Like many older people
She wondered just how and when
Then he started to forget
One of her many dreaded fears
And when he did not know the kids
Her eyes would fill with tears
Chorus+
It was good until it wasn’t
Always covered up her pain
