  1. Just One

From the recording Still Giving It Our Best

Lyrics

Verse 1:
I left work at 5 o’clock on a sunny afternoon
I dropped into my favorite bar for a drink and a couple of tunes
I looked behind the bar and saw my old friend Jim Beam Black
He winked at me; I winked at him; he was glad to see me back
The barkeep brought him over, and we sat and talked awhile
I love to chat with old Jim Beam ‘cause he always makes me smile
Jim Beam he left quickly and like so many times before
I got up to leave and Wesley yelled, “Hey, just one more!”

Chorus:
Just one,
Just one
Just one more
Just one more
Then I’m off to get some things at the local hardware store
Just one,
Just one
Just one more
Just one more
Gonna grab myself some dinner and hit those evening chores

Verse 2:
I was on my second shot, and we started rolling dice
The rolls were going my way, and Jim Beam felt oh so nice
Terry bought another round; now, this was number three
Jim Beam he was moving in to get his grip on me
I told myself that this was it and I’d be on my way
Then Ray showed up, and I knew that it’d be tough to get away
I finished up my drink, and then I headed for the door
But before I got there, Terry yelled, “Hey, just one more!”

Chorus

Verse 3:
I lost track of my drinking; I was having too much fun
Jim Beam he sat smiling ‘cause that he knew that he had won
Timmy had a bit too much, asked Ray to call him a cab
“You’re a cab,” Ray replied, and this made Timmy mad
Timmy started into swearing, and he stomped around the bar
It seemed that he’d be going home in the local police car
Ray called the cab, and things calmed down, order was restored
The cab arrived, Tim looked at it, and yelled, “Let’s have just one more!”

Chorus

Instrumental Break

Verse 4:
The evening slipped away, and I was feeling oh so fine
I looked up at the bar clock, it was nearly closing time
The hardware store was closed now, and the restaurants they were too
A drive through or a quick stop would probably have to do
Jim Beam he had won again, but we both enjoyed the fight
Just before he left, he said, “I’ll see you tomorrow night.”
I felt a little guilty about not getting to my chores
But the guilt it faded quickly when I heard these famous words

Chorus with changes:
Just one,
Just one
Just one more
Just one more
It’s too late to stop at the local hardware store
Just one,
Just one
Just one more
Just one more
Gonna get on home and get some rest and hit those morning chores.

Just one,
Just one
Just one more
Just one more
It’s too late to stop at the local hardware store
Just one,
Just one
Just one more
Just one more
Gonna get on home and get some rest and hit those morning chores.
Gonna get on home and get some rest and hit those morning chores.
